Special Education Advocacy & Consultation
What We Offer
Special Education Advocacy & Consultation
Navigating school services, evaluations, accommodations, and special education supports can feel overwhelming for families. As an experienced team of pediatric speech-language pathologists, we offer individualized advocacy and consultation services to help parents better understand the special education process and feel confident participating in educational planning for their child.
Our approach is collaborative, family-centered, and rooted in supporting meaningful access, communication, and educational participation for children across settings.
Advocacy Support for Maine Families
In the state of Maine, children may qualify for supports through special education services (IEPs) or Section 504 accommodations when a disability impacts educational access or participation. Families often benefit from guidance in understanding evaluations, eligibility decisions, accommodations, communication with school teams, and next steps within the educational process.
Advocacy and consultation services may include:
Parent coaching and educational guidance
Review of educational records and evaluations
Support understanding IEPs and 504 plans
Consultation regarding speech/language and stuttering concerns
Attendance at school meetings (virtual or in-person, as available)
Recommendations for accommodations and supports
Collaboration with outside providers when appropriate
Please note: advocacy services are consultative in nature and do not constitute legal representation.

“Mackenzie assisted us with understanding complex decision making that was happening very quickly with our amazing son’s education plans. She gave us the most valuable thing of all, her time and patience, and explained the “whys” behind the RSU’s decisions. We left with many recommendations and helpful next steps to build a cohesive IEP for our child.”
